This competition was a challenge. Going against the wishes of the town council, we wanted to prove that it was indeed possible to reuse the large structure of the existing nurse home. 

The brief called for a new building to be built alongside the old one, to increase capacity from 110 to 120 beds while maintaining operations. The proposed scheme reuses the majority of the existing structure, only demolishing the upper floor and an oversized church at one end of the wing. It also creates large new spaces on the ground floor, opening up towards the town.
